“When & Where We Gathered” Black History Month Exhibit Opens February 14 at Wright’s Chance
Centreville, MD — The Kennard African American Cultural Heritage Center (KAACHC), in partnership with the Queen Anne’s County Historical Society, will open a new Black History Month exhibition, When & Where We Gathered, on Saturday, February 14, 2026, from 3:00–5:00 p.m. at Wright’s Chance Museum House, located at 119 S. Commerce Street, Centreville.
The exhibit explores how African American communities in Queen Anne’s County have historically come together to socialize, celebrate, organize, worship, and support one another from the post–Civil War era to the present day. Through photographs, artifacts, and shared community memories, When & Where We Gathered highlights both formal and informal spaces where connection, resilience, and cultural continuity were nurtured across generations.
The opening reception will feature remarks by Lamonte E. Cooke, Director of the Queen Anne’s County Department of Corrections, who will speak to the importance of community history, remembrance, and shared responsibility in shaping the county’s future.
Following the opening reception, the exhibit will be open to the public on the first Saturdays of March and April 2026, as well as by appointment, providing additional opportunities for visitors to engage with this powerful and locally rooted history.
When & Where We Gathered reflects an ongoing commitment by KAACHC and the Queen Anne’s County Historical Society to present inclusive historical narratives that honor lived experience and elevate community voices.
