WHAT DO ARTIFACTS TELL US? THE MARKS COLLECTION FROM LOVE POINT ON KENT ISLAND.

June 25 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

On June 25, Dr. Darrin Lowery, our infamous archaeology partner will join us at 7:00 p.m. in Historic Christ Church in Historic Stevensville. Dr. Lowery, arguably the most knowledgeable living expert on Kent Island’s archaeology, will present an overview of the famous Marks collection of Native American artifacts gathered by the Marks family around Love Point in the early and mid-1900’s. The collection is described in the 1981 Kent Island Heritage booklet, “The Isle of Kent”, and was documented by Dr. John Starns of the Natural History Society of Maryland in the 1950’s. The collection was removed to Baltimore decades ago by the Starns family but returned to Kent Island through Dr. Lowery several years ago for study and public display. Key artifacts from the collection will soon become part of the museum display in our new Kent Island Heritage Center and Museum. Dr. Lowery will interpret the collection in his fascinating presentation explaining what those artifacts tell us about the Native Americans of Love Point. He will bring some of the artifacts with him for “up close” viewing. It promises to be a great evening!
