Patriotism and History Shine at “Flags of Our Fathers” Exhibit Event
By Barb Pivec
Centreville, MD – The Queen Anne’s County Historical Society welcomed a full house on Saturday, August 2nd, for a special program in conjunction with its ongoing “Flags of Our Fathers” exhibit at Wright’s Chance Museum. Guests enjoyed an engaging presentation by retired Colonel and historian Christopher Grazzini, whose extensive personal collection of historic American flags and military artifacts formed the heart of the event.
Colonel Grazzini shared the fascinating stories behind some of the rarest and most significant flags in American history, including early national designs, Civil War regimental colors, and banners carried into battle by Maryland troops. His remarks blended historical detail with personal anecdotes from decades of research and collecting, giving visitors a deeper appreciation for the flags as both symbols and witnesses to the nation’s history.
“This is more than cloth and stitching,” Grazzini told the audience. “These flags are storytellers. They carry the weight of sacrifice, pride, and unity.”
Following the presentation, attendees toured the exhibit, which features historic flags alongside interpretive panels and artifacts from early American history. The event was part of the Society’s ongoing mission to connect the community to its heritage through engaging and educational programs.
The “Flags of Our Fathers” exhibit will remain on display through September 2025 at Wright’s Chance Museum in Centreville. The museum is open the first Saturday of each month from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and by appointment. Group tours are welcome. Visitors can also follow the Society on Facebook or email qachsociety@gmail.com for information. Admission is free; donations are always welcome. Membership in the Society is open to all.
